What I'm trying to achieve with this website.

Draggor's Den has been an ongoing project for me since I was first connected to the internet in 1996. Though at first I didn't realize it, webpage design is an art, and the presentation of material can in many cases be just as important as the material itself. If a website is annoying or hard to navigate, people may give up and not want to come back, regardless of how interesting the content may be.

This is what helped me to devise a goal for myself: To create a consise, compatible, user friendly, and visually appealing website that has a definite purpose. Let me elaborate:

Consise:
All text on my website should be relevent and to the point. It should be easy to obtain information from the text without having to wade through an ocean of rambling. Pages should maintain a consistent format across the entire site.

Compatible:
The site should be viewable under a wide range of browsers and not rely solely on browser-specific or plug-in specific designs. The design should consider users with lower bandwidth while still meeting the expectation of high bandwidth users.

User Friendly:
People should not have problems finding what they want, or finding out exactly what is present. Links, headings, tables, and lists should be used in logical places with appropriate emphasis. It should be made easy for new visitors to understand the structure and flow of the site while providing shortcuts for more experienced visitors. Large images or audio file of any type should not be embedded in mainstream pages - they should be linked to with an explanation of exactly what they are. Also the site should be User Friendly toward it's developer, making it easy to maintain and update.

Visually Appealing:
The website design should use colors wisely in order to facilitate reading, attract necessary attention, and avoid unnecessary distraction. Images should be used effectively and sparingly, and should be relevant to site navigation or content on the same page. Whitespace should ALWAYS be used to avoid overwhealming the visitor with confusing clutter.

Definite Purpose:
A website shouldn't be made "just for the hell of it". There should be some reason why people would actively look for your site amongs the millions of other websites on the internet. Visitors need to be able to get something out of a site, whether it be information, entertainment, or a useful service.

Every new version of Draggor's Den was made with the purpose of improving one or more of these aspect from the previous design. In all cases, there are compromises that must be made. For instance, Draggor's Den V6 was an attempt for better compatibility at the expense of visual appearance.

In this latest version of Draggor's Den, compatibility, user friendliness, and visual appearance have all sharply improved over the last version. Consistency and purpose have remained essentially the same. For more information about the evolution of Draggor's Den, visit the Page History section.
