Download soundfonts that I've compiled.

A lot of people have been prodding me to get this section up, so I've finally done it!

MIDIs and Sound Fonts work closely with one another. A Sound Font allows you to use your own custom instruments when playing MIDIs, in the place of whatever default your sound card may come with. Unfortunately, not all Sound Cards support Sound Fonts as they require large amounts of RAM for storage.

If your Sound Card supports sound fonts, you can try out some of the Soundfonts I have posted here on my site. Before downloading, be sure that your sound card actually supports Sound Fonts of that size!

A long time ago I had a Sound Blaster AWE 64 which only supported Sound Fonts under 500K. Then I had a Sound Blaster Live which could allocate a maximum of 1/2 of my system RAM, so about 190 Megs. Now I have an Audigy 2, which can get me up to 430 Megs!! But naturally, Soundfonts can get larger than that...

 Important Info

All SoundFont files on this site are compressed using SFArk - this is a special type of compression designed specifically for SoundFonts. In some cases it's capable of compressing them by more than 50%, cutting the file size in half! I apologize for the hassle of forcing you to use this program to extract them, but I hope you understand that it's worthwhile, especially for large files. Besides, if you're hunting for SoundFonts online, you're going to need this utility sooner or later.

NOTE: The SoundFont I use for my MP3 recordings contains presets from a commercial package, and is therefore illegal for me to distribute in an unmixed form (ie. I can distribute the MP3s I record, but not the SoundFont or Samples). All soundfonts in this section are either:

  1. Put together by me using my own sound samples, or freely distributable sound samples found on the internet.
  2. Comprised of a combination of freely distributable instrument presets found on the internet.

 Patches

Patches are SoundFonts that only contain a few instruments. They are meant to be loaded over top of a full SoundFont to replace or "patch" certain instruments. For instance, one of the soundfonts below is intended for preset 127, which patches the Gunshot instrument to sound like Thunder instead.

Wolf Howls

Various different wolf howls playable at various pitches. Non-looping. Used in "Celebration of the Wolf: Karasu's Theme" and "Night Lurkers".

Night Dogs

Dogs barking at night. Non-looping. Used in "Night Lurkers".

Night Crickets

A long sample of crickets chirping. Does not loop on it's own, however it has a slow decay so that if you play the sample in succession, the transition is fairly smooth. Used in "Night Lurkers".

Sharp Synth

A very sharp buzzy synth I put together from a bunch of synth samples. Looping. Gets on your nerves quite easily. I haven't used this for anything of mine yet.

Rob's Old Soundfont

This was the SoundFont I used to use before I bought the commercial package for my newer custom soundfont. It was pieced together with instruments from the Final Fantasy 7 SoundFont, and the standard 8 Meg GM SoundFont that comes with Creative soundcards. Don't expect anything special here - the instruments are in key, but the sample quality is not that great. I cut out some of the less commonly used instruments to reduce file size.
